Trying to find people living in MO and paying child support to see if they have been ordered to continue to pay child support, court ordered not voulantarily, past the age of 18 and if they were required to pay for 50% of their childs college education? Only 13 states allow a judge to order child support and college education and Missouri happens to be one of them. But I wondering if you truly cannot afford it then how can they FORCE you to pay it? Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

hello, well i didn't personaly go through this but my father did....we live in st.louis....and he had to pay half of the cost till his other daughter was 23 of if she graduated before them....but it has to be a university not a community ot tech college......so you need to see what type of college it is.....also he or she will beforced to pay no matter what if it is the right college....it doesnt matter what your income is just as long as you can pay something....sorry for the bad news

It's true that you must assist in the payment of college, but, not at a greater amount than you were paying for child support. Also it must be proved that you were in favor of sending this kid to school prior to the divorce and had made plans to this effect. Someone has blindsided you with this obscure law. If you have never intended to send your child to college then they can't force you to do so. Otherwise all children would have the rights to sue their parents for the purpose of going to college. So would all ex wives! Get a lawyer, and not some bargain basement lawyer! It will save you big $'s in the long run. Some even have free consultations. If your child wants to force you into some wrongfully intended use of this law, tell them to join the military to acquire their college tuition.

They garnish your wages is how they FORCE you to pay any child support...they take away your driver's license as well as confiscate any income tax refunds. My ex husband pays for our daughter's college education because it was agreed to in the divorce and either he adheres to it or he winds up in jail for contempt of court. I haven't had any problems with him keeping up with the child support or her college tuition though...Never had probelms with him being financially responsible.
