Any words of wisdom/advice for a college freshman?
I just turned 28 years old, never attended college, but am starting to plan & apply for a Christian, liberal arts college in Missouri. I have never taken the SATs or ACTs, so I still have to do that... Anyway, I am looking for general advice on preparation & college life, in general. Any thoughts?

My advice is pretty pragmatic. Before attending this liberal arts college why not take two basic courses at a community college. You should take an entry level math and English course. You can work on getting re-oriented to college life and you can brush up on your skills. You can also pick up some basic pointers on financial aid, computers, and even make new friends. Also it will help you in your SAT and/or ACT preparation. Part of going back to school after an absence is getting over some fears about being back where the kids in most o your classes will be 18 or 19. No worries you have much more life experiences than they do. But they have the advantage in that their study skills will most likely be better. My advice is to study hard, take plenty of road trips with your new college friends and have a great time learning.

I just graduated from high school and so in about 3 weeks I start my first year in college also. The thing that's helped me the most is to learn a lot about the school I'm attending and also to get to know my admissions counselor because that way my school experience is just easier. Good Luck

You will probably have a distinct advantage over the average freshman in terms of maturity. Use that maturity to stay focused on your studies. Too many freshmen take too much advantage of their new found freedom, and end up having a dismal first year academically. People may look at you a little weird for being 10 years older than the average freshman. Just get over it as quickly as you can. The goal is the diploma.
